Heli Fly Fishing The Eastern Rivers

These heli trips stay on the Eastern side of the Southern Alps main divide and are all heli drop off/heli pick up trips. The helicopter does not stay with us for the day. We choose which river to fish on the day given your budget and what the weather conditions are doing to maximize your heli fly fishing experience. Most of these rivers have a good mix of both Brown and Rainbow trout.

New Zealand Fly Fishing Expeditions - Heli Fishing East of the Divide

New Zealand Fly Fishing Expeditions – Heli Fishing East of the Divide

These trips start at NZD 1865.00 + Guide fees and landing fees for the closer rivers and range thru to NZD 3500.00 + Guide fees and landing fees for the more remote rivers. They can be based out of either Queenstown or Wanaka depending on the weather and what sort of experience you are looking for.

The Heli Details

I will pick you up from your accommodation in Queenstown or Wanaka at a pre-arranged time and we will drive to meet the helicopter operator. After a safety briefing we will board the Hughes 500 helicopter and fly towards our fishing destination for the day. The heli will set us down where we wish to start fishing before departing leaving us to fish in peace and solitude. The heli will arrive at a pre-arranged time to pick us up and return us back to civilization and the end of a great days fishing.

New Zealand Fly Fishing Expeditions - Heli Fishing Pick Up

New Zealand Fly Fishing Expeditions – Heli Fishing Pick Up

If the weather on the day of the trip is not conducive to fly into the more remote Eastern Rivers we have opportunities to heli fish into closer areas that are more sheltered and generally use less flying time. On the odd occasion this is not possible we can revert back to using the 4WD for the day.

These heli fly fishing trips can cater to most ability levels from low novice/intermediate to the exceptionally skilled fly angler if we choose the correct place for the day.

As my client you will pay for the helicopter portion of the trip on the day so you will only get charged for the helicopter if we fly and where we fly to.
