Gavin grew up on the shores of Tauranga harbour, where he developed his passion for fishing under
the tutelage of his very patient father. Most of his early fishing experiences were in the saltwater,
but he and his dad took up flyfishing when Gavin was in his early teens, and many memorable
father/son trips were undertaken, Lake Waikeremoana and its surrounding rivers being a particular
favourite.

Now Queenstown based, Gavin spends his winters training and educating ski instructors and his
summers on the river. He has fished extensively throughout the lower half of the South Island and
particularly enjoys sight fishing in smaller rivers.
Gavin, has a typically dry Kiwi sense of humour, and a huge amount of teaching experience. So, days
on the river will not only be fun, but you will leave a better fisherman!

I can’t tell you how much I appreciated everything you did to make my fishing trip unforgettable. That trophy brown was totally unbelievable! Frankly, I’m surprised we were able to land him. That was one of the longest fights I’ve ever had with a fish. Fighting that trout and the river current was a whole new experience for me. Your advice and help were invaluable. I will definitely call you the next time I get to New Zealand. And I really enjoyed your website article and photo. Thanks again for putting me in position to catch the fish of a lifetime. And it was almost a few fish of a lifetime. All in all…brilliant!!!
