And the nasty weather continues. Trout fishing is off the menu at this stage as this very deep system keeps sending a series of cold fronts bearing rain, chubby rain (sleet) and snow over the South Island – the North Island has also been hit with some violent weather too with snow on the beach at Mt Maunganui!!!
The back country trout are certainly haveing a very good break from fishing pressure not that they get much at this time of year any way. When we do get a break in the weather it will be certainly good to get out and attack some of the fresh run brown trout that will have been moving up the systems during this storm.
I guess it’s a good time to tie flies and shoot ducks!

NZ Fly Fishing Expeditions - a wee hole in the storm but you know whats coming in another 5 mins
I can’t tell you how much I appreciated everything you did to make my fishing trip unforgettable. That trophy brown was totally unbelievable! Frankly, I’m surprised we were able to land him. That was one of the longest fights I’ve ever had with a fish. Fighting that trout and the river current was a whole new experience for me. Your advice and help were invaluable. I will definitely call you the next time I get to New Zealand. And I really enjoyed your website article and photo. Thanks again for putting me in position to catch the fish of a lifetime. And it was almost a few fish of a lifetime. All in all…brilliant!!!
